Schedule of Practice

Blue Iris Sangha in New Orleans is a fellowship for the practice of mindfulness, inspired by the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and by the precepts of the Order of Interbeing (Tiep Hien). We meet Monday evenings for sitting and walking meditation, dharma discussion, and reciting of the precepts. Everyone interested in the practice of mindfulness is welcome.

The gate opens promptly at 6:45 PM. Informal discussion (and time for gathering) follows until 7:00 PM. Recitation of the Threefold Refuge and the Five Precepts and a short dharma talk and discussion follow until 7:40.  Sitting and walking meditation practices begin at 7:40 and conclude at 8:30 PM with recitation of an excerpt from the Metta Sutta.  For more information, you may inquire by email to info@BlueIrisSangha.org

Recitations

The following links are to several of the recitations we use in the Blue Iris Sangha. Anyone who wishes may copy them, distribute them, and use them.

We begin each service with the Threefold Refuge and conclude with the excerpt from the Metta Sutta. The Five Precepts are also recited together weekly.

Bell of Mindfulness

The bell in this site is a .wav recording of the Blue Iris Sangha bell.

(Adapted from Plum Village Chanting Book)
The sound of the bell is the Voice of the Buddha, calling us back to our True Self.
