BLUE IRIS SANGHA, NEW ORLEANS  DISSOLVED NOVEMBER 25 2012

Blue Iris Sangha in New Orleans was a fellowship for the practice of mindfulness that was founded in 1993 by Dewain Belgard, Art Samuels, Leslie Tremaine, and Shawn Nguyen.  Except for the interruption of several months when Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of New Orleans in 2005, the group met Monday evenings for sitting and walking meditation, dharma discussion, and reciting of the precepts until late November 2012.

Though Blue Iris Sangha has dissolved, this website is maintained to make the practice materials used by the group available to individuals and groups who may find them useful.

Recitations

The following links are to several of the recitations used by Blue Iris Sangha. Anyone who wishes may copy them, distribute them, and use them.

Each formal practice  session begins with the Threefold Refuge and concludes with the excerpt from the Metta Sutta. The Five Precepts are also recited together weekly.

Meditation Manual

Starting in 2008, participants in Blue Iris practice were given a copy of this manual on their second visit.  It's available in paperback from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and your local bookseller.  It's available for download to Kindle from Amazon.Com.  Click HERE for the Kirkus review,
